Photo Slideshow: Original Change Project & Casa Juan Diego Youth Center

On Wednesday July 15th, Original Change Project teamed up with the youth center, Casa Juan Diego, to educate youth ages six to ten about being active, eating healthy, and preventing diabetes. This event was unique because Original Change Project was joined by ten pre-medical college students, from across the country, who were in attendance for Rush University's week-long Summer Multicultural Enrichment. These dedicated students engaged the Casa Juan Diego youth in taking heart rates, identifying the differences between good fats and bad fats, participating in physical activity, learning proper portion sizes, and watching out for diabetes risk factors.

Diabetes is a chronic disease that affects more than 246 million people world-wide. Hispanic Americans are 1.7 times more likely to have diabetes than non-Hispanic whites. With this glaring disproportion, Original Change Project finds it necessary to increase awareness among Hispanic youth.

Where: Casa Juan Diego (2020 S Blue Island Ave)

When: Wednesday July 15th, 1 to 3:30pm

What: A hands-on educational event to raise awareness of physical activity, nutrition, and diabetes among Hispanic youth

Why: Simply put, Original Change Project does it big for the kids!
