Photo Slideshow: Original Change Project & Stop The Violence On Saturday August 1st, Original Change Project teamed up with Mandell United Methodist Church for a Stop The Violence block party. The Austin community, on Chicago's west side, has been ranked number one in weapons violations within city limits. Original Change Project performed blood pressure and vision checks, educated attendees about stroke and diabetes, provided information for state health insurance programs, and hosted a free book giveaway. The outcome was amazing and highlights the need for greater access to resources in crime-ridden neighborhoods such as Austin. Where: Mandell United Methodist Church (5000 W. Congress Pkwy) When: Saturday August 1st, 10 to 5pm What: A block party bringing together the community to fight against the current trend of violent crimes in the Austin neighborhood of Chicago. Why: A community overflowing with violence does not foster proper access to health and social services, therefore perpetuating a cycle of health disparities in Chicago communities. Original Change Project seeks to change this. |
